Screen Territory
Screen Territory’s role is to develop and support the local film, television and new media industry and attract production to the Territory.
Screen Territory exists to take a leadership role in supporting an innovative and creative screen industry that enriches Territory lives through quality story telling that delivers economic and creative benefits to the Northern Territory.
Location Liaison
The Northern Territory provides filmmakers with outstanding attractions and locations due to the diversity of the landscape. The Territory has everything from the dry desert plains of the red centre dotted with magnificent sandstone and rock ranges scattered with gorges and often dry rivers, to the tropical rainforests and plains of the Top End with an abundance of waterfalls, rivers, gorges, lakes and beautiful coastline.
Due to its diversity, the NT offers locations that double for many different parts of the world including:
- Africa
- Mars
- North America
- Pacific and Indian Ocean islands
- South East Asia.
The Territory also offers filmmakers world class accommodation at many of the major centres including Darwin, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs and Yulara.
Screen Territory supports location searches by providing images and details of sites and, for more extensive support, provides links with local location liaisons. The Tourism NT image gallery also has thousands of images showcasing the uniqueness and beauty of the NT.
Permits to Film
A number of locations within the Territory require permission from the local authority or community prior to the start of filming.
Filming in National Parks requires permission from the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife service. Filming on Aboriginal land also requires permission from the relevant land council.
