Population
The estimated population of the Northern Territory at 30 September 2010 was 230 200. The population of the Northern Territory currently comprises 1% of the total Australian population.
The Territory’s population comprises a young, highly mobile population of whom approximately 30% are indigenous. More than half the Territory’s population lives in the Darwin region. The average age in the NT is 31.3 years, the youngest of any jurisdiction. Since 2004, population growth in the Territory has been consistently above national growth, averaging 2% per year.
